World’s leading IP management specialist strengthens support for clients in world’s fastest growing IP market

CPA Global, the world's leading intellectual property (IP) management and software specialist, has opened its first office in Mainland China to help meet the rapidly increasing demand for professional IP management services in the country.

Located in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, the new office will support the IP needs of corporations and law firms, both domestic and international; and provide a springboard for CPA Global’s further expansion in Mainland China.

CPA Global has had a presence in China since 2009, when it first opened its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in the Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region); and this growing operation has recently relocated to larger premises in Hong Kong’s Central Business district. Similarly, the new Shenzhen office is located in Futian, Shenzhen’s main financial and business district.

Announcing the opening of the Shenzhen office, Peter Sewell, CPA Global’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “China is today the world’s fastest growing market for IP and one of the top filers of international patents. We are seeing increasing demand for professional IP management services and IP software in the country, both from domestic Chinese corporations and law firms, as well as overseas companies and law firms that are focusing on the China market.

“With our regional headquarters in Hong Kong and our new office in Shenzhen, we will be able to better serve the needs of our clients in this major global market. We also plan to open offices in Beijing and other cities in China over the next 12 months. This underlines CPA Global’s ongoing commitment to China and the Asia Pacific region as a whole.”

Joanne Hon, CPA Global’s Senior Vice President Asia, added: "The rapid increase in patent filings originating from China is set to continue fuelled by the Chinese Government’s ambitious innovation and patent development strategies. On a country-by-country basis, China's expenditure on R&D is now second only to the US.  Indeed, China’s focus on developing a technology-based economy, protected by IP Rights is at the core of its success. As a result, more and more Chinese companies are not just recognising the importance of protecting their IP, but also of managing their intellectual assets more effectively to maximise the value.”

The Shenzhen office will be responsible for sales and client service in southern China, supported by CPA Global’s extensive worldwide operations, which include patent and trademark renewals, IP management software, patent research and analytics, trademark watching, domains name management, as well as IP administration services, such as docketing and recordals.

CPA Global has a significant presence in Asia Pacific. In addition to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, it has offices in South Korea (Seoul) and Australia (Sydney), and a long-standing strategic alliance with NGB Corporation in Japan. CPA Global also has two delivery centres in India for IP and legal services support services.

As part of its ongoing, industry leadership activities to promote IP in Asia Pacific, CPA Global will be speaking at and sponsoring the 5th China IP Counsel Congress to be held in Shenzhen from 19-20 March, 2013.
