Partnerships in Care
Partnerships in Care is the UK’s leading independent provider of specialist mental health and related services. It provides services caring for men and women with complex mental health needs and specialises in the areas of mental health, personality disorders, learning disabilities and brain injury rehabilitation. It operates over 1,200 beds in its 23 facilities around the UK and employs over 3,300 staff.
Cinven already knew the company well as a result of its previous ownership of General Healthcare Group, of which Partnerships in Care was a subsidiary. As a result Cinven was able to create a detailed business plan and strategy to accelerate the development plan at existing sites and expand into new services in the adjacent Low Secure market through single site acquisitions and organic growth. An operational efficiency programme was also undertaken to share best practices across sites and improve margins.
The strategy is now well advanced. Partnerships in Care has invested significant amounts of capital in its sites to increase capacity and develop new services. A further seven sites have been acquired since acquisition to establish Partnerships in Care as a leading low secure operator. A performance improvement plan was implemented over 18 months, focusing on ward staffing, procurement and head office savings which led to material improvements in margins.
In June 2014, Partnerships in Care announced that the company had entered into an agreement to be acquired by Acadia Healthcare Company, Inc. The acquisition was completed in July 2014.
