Vega signs contract for two new satellites

Launch system VEGA signs new contract for satellites OPTSAT 3000 and VENµS

VEGA, the Italian launch system developed by AVIO, announced that it had signed a contract for two new satellites: the French-Israeli satellite VENµS and the Italian satellite OPTSAT 3000, both built by the Israeli Aircraft Agency (IAI).

OPTSAT 3000 is a high resolution Earth observation satellite developed for the Italian Ministry of Defence with industry collaboration from CGS S.p.A. and Telespazio.

VENµs, Vegetation and Environment Monitoring on a New Micro Satellite, is for an Earth observation mission and developed jointly by the Israeli Space Agency (ISA) and the French space agency CNES (Centre national d'études spatiales).

The mission is expected to start in 2016 within the launch programme VEGA. The Italian launcher was created and developed by ELV S.p.A., AVIO's subsidiary and in which Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) holds a 30% stake.

VEGA is part of the commercial launcher family of Arianespace, the world's leading satellite launch company.
