Press releases

Numericable Group
29 August 2013

2013 first-half results

  • More than one million subscribers to Numericable multiple play
  • Revenue growth (+3.8%): a period of growth driven by innovation and the roll-out of fibre optic
  • Sales continue to be boosted by LaBox Fibre by Numericable (+41%)

An ever-growing customer base

The total customer base on the Numericable network continues to grow with 1,650,000 individual subscribers in the first half of 2013.

The multiple play customer base (Numericable and white-label services), grew by 11.3% during the year to 1,322,000 subscribers.

This growth was primarily driven by a significant increase in Numericable's multiple play customer base, which now stands at over 1 million subscribers (1,002,000).

This customer base growth can be attributed to the commercial success of LaBox Fibre by Numericable, which was launched in 2012.

Innovation and the roll-out of fibre-optic broadband as a driver of growth

Numericable's growth trend continued over the first half of 2013 as the company posted revenues of €453 million, a 3.8% increase compared to the first half of 2012 (€436 million).

This growth in revenues is due not only to the growing popularity of very-high-speed broadband in homes, but the efforts made by Numericable's R&D teams in continuing to develop new innovative services for the LaBox Fibre by Numericable, which is acknowledged as being one of the best-performing set-top boxes in Europe.

In view of the increase in commercial communications, the company's operating profitability (EBITDA) remained stable between the first half of 2012 and the same period in 2013 at €230 million.

Sales continue to be boosted by the success of Labox fibre by Numericable

LaBox Fibre by Numericable has made a strong contribution to sales figures. In comparison to the first half of 2012, there was a 41% increase in sales during the first half of 2013, and the LaBox Fibre by Numericable had been installed in the homes of more than 216,000 subscribers by the end of June 2013.

This strong growth confirms the current demands of consumers, notably in terms of innovation, connected TV and broadband speeds. The number of screens in French homes is soaring, with an average of 6.3 screens per household as customers continue to demand innovation and high speeds in order to be able to use all of their various connected devices online.

Numericable, a key player in the roll-out of fibre-optic broadband in France

With more than 4.977 million homes now equipped with fibre-optic broadband (100 Mb or higher) on the Numericable network, the operator confirmed its leading position in the market at the end of the second quarter of 2013.

Numericable's aim is to roll-out fibre-optic broadband across the whole of France according to three complementary models:

  • Upgrading its own fibre-optic network
  • Co-investment with local authorities. Numericable has already established partnerships with more than 500 local authorities.
  • Bring very-high-speed broadband services to public-initiative networks (PIN), the fibre-optic networks rolled-out by local authorities.

The fibre technology deployed by Numericable (FTTB) is recognised by the government and by ARCEP (the French communications regulator) as a suitable form of technology to support very-high-speed broadband.
