Andrew Day Appointed CEO Designate for World Directories
Funds advised by Apax Partners and Cinven Limited announce the appointment of Andrew Day as Chief Executive designate of World Directories, the directory and yellow pages business being sold by VNU NV.
Funds advised by Apax Partners and Cinven last month agreed to buy the company for a consideration of €2,075 million from the publicly listed Dutch information and media business.
Mr Day, 50, joins from Sensis Pty Ltd, Australia’s leading directories business and a subsidiary of Telstra, where he has been Chief Executive for the last five years. He previously held a number of senior management positions at Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company.
Mr Day will join the World Directories main board and executive committee.
Ed Penninx, the current CEO of World Directories, returns to VNU as an adviser to the Board and will also assist Andrew Day in his development of the company.
World Directories, employing approximately 2,200 people, publishes Yellow Pages directories and telephone books in print, on-line and mobile formats. The group is market leader in each of the seven countries in which it operates, namely Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Puerto Rico and South Africa. World Directories produces 125 directories with a circulation of over 40 million copies, under brand names such as Golden Pages, Gouden Gids, Pages d’Or, Páginas Amarelas and Pagini Aurii.
For the year to 31 December 2003, World Directories generated €492 million of revenues and €228 million of EBITDA (including attributable EBITDA from associates).
