Business description

Phadia is the global leader in in-vitro allergy testing. The company manufactures and sells specialised blood testing systems and associated consumables and services. It is also the European leader in testing for autoimmune diseases. Phadia distributes directly in 21 markets and extends its reach through an international network of distributors. It operates in approximately 3,000 laboratories in 60 countries.

Since it was established in 1967, Phadia has been a pioneer in bringing new allergy diagnostic tests to the market and its products, including the ImmunoCAP range, have a high reputation. The company's success has been founded on strong R&D, which competitors have been unable to match. Phadia provides its highly advanced diagnostic systems to hospital and commercial laboratories. Its installed machine base generates a continuing revenue stream through the supply of allergens, autoimmunity tests and related consumables.

Cinven strategy

Cinven's Healthcare sector and Nordic team identified Phadia as a strong company with significant growth potential. It has already achieved strong growth in Japan and Europe and has built significant market shares in Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

Cinven and the company's management team intend to pursue further growth in these markets, and also in new and relatively under-penetrated markets, particularly the US. The company is also expecting to increase revenues from its new point-of-care allergy test, which is now being marketed in a number of European countries, as well as through the development of its highgrowth autoimmunity division.
